Jim Dodd started diving in 1988. In 2003 he did his Divemaster course and also started taking photos with a cheap film camera. From there he moved to a Samsung Digimax V3, then a Nikon Coolpix 8400 in an Ikelite housing with a single Ikelite DS 125 strobe. After 5 years of faithful service he up graded to a Nikon D7000/Ikelite housing at Christmas 2010.
Jim's photographic accomplishments are 1st and a 3rd places in local underwater photo comps in 2006 & 2008 respectively. In 2010 he went to Byron Bay for the inaugural Sundive photo shootout where he won 1st place best photo in the compact camera category. His prize was a 4 night 3 day trip out to the Neptune Islands diving with the Great Whites from Rodney Fox Shark Expeditions. 2011 was another good year for Jim as he also won 1st place in the nudibranch category of the Underwater Festival, where he won an Olympus camera and housing which he flooded it after about 10 dives.
Jim is passionate about diving, uw photography and protecting the marine environment and all that rely upon it. He is a co-founder of Ocean Guardians with wife Cherie and a founding member of CHUG (Combined Hunter Underwater Group). Jim would like his photography to inspire empathy for the fragile marine environment in Australia and around the world.
